Check-in 3-6pm, check-out noon. Villa Alegre, or "Happy House", is that indeed. With only 5 rooms and 2 separate villas, it can't help but be personal. You will find yourself feeling completely at home after the warm welcome offered by your ex-pat hosts Barry & Suzye (and their two dogs!). Each room is quite different but all share bright colours and a particular country's theme. Choose the Mexico room, or the Russia room for example, and you will be enveloped in that theme. The common area feels just like your comfortable living room or study at home, with comfy couches and a library at hand. Step outside and you are at poolside - just big enough for some mild exercise, and your fellow lifeguards are watching you about as closely as they are watching the ice melt in their drinks. Help yourself to refreshments from the fridge and you'll really start feeling like a guest at an old friend's house. These old friends happen to live only a stone's throw from Playa Langosta, a long beach that teems with bird life and is known for fine surfing. The crowds, such as they are in this quiet fishing town are around the point to the north on the sandy Playa Tamarindo. Quiet or busy - take your pick, but this is a fine spot to rest after your busy vacation day.

Kids very welcome! Horseshoes, shuffleboard, pool, and wonderful beach. Kids under 3 free.
Notes Tamarindo village, 1 km distant, is an easy walk to many restaurants. Although Tamarindo has a lot to offer during the daylight hours, the nightlife should not be missed. There are over 40 restaurants which offer cuisine from around the world, many beach bars with specials you can't miss, a disco and two casinos.
