Another charming property popular with Europeans, Villas Gaia is well-situated on the excellent new road to Panama, midway between Sierpe and Dominical (35km each way) on Costa Rica's lush South Pacific coast. The 12 small villas are simple and rustic and enjoy complete privacy set as they are amidst the gardens and meandering pathways of the property. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, and you will be made most welcome by the local staff on your arrival. The cabins each have private bathrooms and shower and wonderful terraces that look out on the forest around you. Half of the units are air conditioned, and it is always nice to have that option available to you in these latitudes. A few units have sea views, and the swimming and surfing beach is a 15 minute walk away down a private trail. You are very much in the middle of tropical forest here, with towering trees harbouring a variety of vocal birds. Exotic fruits are there for the picking, and the gardens are full of flowers. It has everything your soul is missing during a northern winter! At the colourful dining and bar area good fresh Costa Rican meals can be had at reasonable prices, or there are alternative dining opportunities at the nearby village of Ojochal. The piece de resistance of this quiet resort must be the pool area that is built on a ridge overlooking a broad expanse of Pacific. Never crowded, you can read your holiday novel on the reclining deck chairs, take frequent dips in the lovely pool, and help yourself to cold drinks from the honour fridge behind the bar. If you have made some explorations, tried your hand at surfing, or taken one of many wildlife tours available, you will find the pool area the perfect place to relax at the end of the day and make acquaintance with your fellow travelers. It is a very nice atmosphere at Villas Gaia - not plush or formal, but naturally perfect none the less.
Family Information
Children will have a wonderful time here.
Notes Villas Gaia is centrally located. The surfing town of Dominical lies 35km to the north, with its small restaurants, campsites, internet cafes, and river mouth surf break. Remember when you were backpacking? The essence of that experience is still alive and well in Dominical. There are numerous other beaches between Villas Gaia and Dominical - none of them crowded. To the south of Villas Gaia is the vast mangrove areas that support nearly 360 species of birds and a boat tour through the canals here will likely show you caimans, crocodiles, boas, iguanas, turtles, raccoons, crabs, and tree frogs. In the tree tops, look for sloth and monkeys including the Howlers, White Faced Capuchins, and Squirrels. This is without doubt the richest area in Costa Rica in terms of wildlife diversity, with sufficient rainfall to support these many species, and with the marine ecosystem at its fringes.
