Here is a family that has made a very successful move to the tropics - Jeff & Joanie and their daughter Jessica are builders and sailors that have come to anchor in this beautiful part of Manuel Antonio and have created a small, charming hotel that truly fits the scene. It could be described as casual luxury - comfortable with more than just a touch of fun, and the décor is a perfect fit. It is small and intimate and the friendly welcome you receive is genuine and low-key. Walk past the gate (locked at night), past the front desk (actually one end of the long bar), past a table or two, and you can pull up a stool, rest your elbows on the varnished timber rail, place your chin in your hands and gaze out to sea. From this high perch, the view is wide and clear and it takes a few moments to realize that there is a lovely pool and deck just below you. Close your eyes and you might miss the monkeys, but you will hear the tropical bird calls. No rush. Relax and sit awhile - you can unpack later and put your clothes into the richly grained varnished cabinetry in your comfortable room. Colours are subdued and all fit together nicely - there has been an artist at work here. Very comfortable beds set in a pleasing decor. Lower level suites open out onto the pool deck. Breakfast only is served at this charming 8-room hotel, but a variety of restaurants are within easy walking distance nearby. There is a many-step trail leading down, down, down to the beach where you will find seclusion and safe swimming, and the trek up again will be rewarded by a refreshing dip in the tiled infinity pool. Or, you can take a taxi home!

Notes
Manuel Antonio draws visitors from around the world to visit the famed park at the end of the peninsula. You will enjoy the fruits of this perfect example of wise conservation promoted by the Costa Rican government. The nearby beach is perfect, with just enough people to be interesting without being too crowded. It is fringed with colourful restaurants under the shade of the almond trees. With the dense foliage edging the powdery beach and many fine restaurants nearby, Manuel Antonio is surely one of the most pleasant areas in the country.
