Once known as Cabinas Alma, this extraordinary B&B property is the result of a determined and passionate effort by its owners Sabina and Jean Martin. These Canadian ex-pats followed their dreams to establish this small park-like setting where you will enjoy a tranquil view of the surrounding jungle and not-too-distant ocean. The property has for your biological enjoyment a fantastic variety of tropical trees, bushes, palms, plants, and bright flowers. Your hostess is so enthusiastic about their discovery that she is only too happy to share her wide knowledge of the area, both social and natural. Be sure to accept her invitation for a walk to the nearby waterfalls, or to pay a visit to her colourful neighbour who makes his own chocolate right from the tree! Staying here is an education. You slowly awake to wonderful sounds of birdlife coming through the screened windows of your simple cabin. A morning yoga session under the dedicated shelter might be a fitting way to start your day here. Being a quiet retreat focused more on creatures rather than creature comforts, the 8 rooms in 3 cabins are basic but comfortable. In each room, guests will find custom-made bamboo furniture and original artwork. You will enjoy a private bathroom with hot shower, and a ceiling fan that will keep you cool through the night. The rooms also feature a mini-fridge, coffee maker, utensils and dishes. Microwave available on request. You can enjoy your freshly brewed morning coffee, or an evening tea on the cabin's shared veranda. You are given a friendly welcome at the open-air dining area for a full breakfast (included) featuring, of course, fresh fruit from the gardens and eggs from the neighbours. Sabina will engage you (or not, as is your wish) with illuminating tropical tales, and if you ever wondered what it might be like to drop it all and set up a little hotel in the tropics, here's your chance to sample those delights. You will not be bathed in luxury here (although the pool is wonderful), but you will come away very much richer for the experience. It takes about 30 min to drive to Quepos and another 10 min. to get from Quepos to Manuel Antonio. We now have a new, good road to get there so it's a cinch!
Family Information
The hotel has one little house for a family of up to 6 with 2 bathrooms and kitchen. Children will have a wonderful time here, and learn a terrific amount about tropical nature.
Meal Information
The hotel serves breakfast each day but other meals are only made upon request. They like cooking vegetarian but also cook meats and fish if desired.
Notes Fantastic birdlife, and many monkeys migrate daily through the trees bordering the cleared property. Scuba and snorkelling and particularly surfing is outstanding on the coast nearby. So far there has been very little tourism development in this area - catch it while you can!
