It is difficult to describe this quiet scenic setting in conventional terms. Set in a quiet rural area near Atenas town, 20 minutes' drive west of the airport in San Jose, this facility is a delightful work in progress. Not a hotel, not a resort, but a special retreat that is being constantly developed by your energetic hostess Senora Magda Corrales, the property enjoys fine views across the San Jose valley to the Poas volcano. The accommodations are varied in style and purpose. There are two bungalows located close to the main dining area, two rooms in the accommodation building (one with a fabulous view from its balcony), or in one of the new duplex cabins set apart from the pool and sport areas. Some of the cabins have cooking and laundry facilities for long-term guests. This finca (farm property) is popular amongst Costa Ricans for family gatherings and annual vacations, and would present an excellent opportunity for travelers to meet and get to know the local people. Decidedly low-key and unpretentious like the Costa Rican people themselves, this property and its gracious hostess will make you feel at home. Great hiking trails are nearby, cycling, motorbikes, and horses are available, and at the end of a busy day, this is a great place to just relax. It is well positioned for you to make day-trips to volcano or beach attractions, or you can easily spend days reading at the side of either of two pools, hiking the nearby trails, or batting a tennis ball about. All meals are available on site, and restaurants are easily found in the nearby villages. A slice of the real thing! You may want to consider using the Lodge for a long-term stay and base of operations for your Costa Rican explorations.
